About The Kid Crane Plans


The crane has a two piece hub that the rope winds up on. The inner hub is not visible and is connected to the steel rod that passes through it’s center. The outer hub is what the rope winds up on. Each hub has 4 1/2” diameter rare earth magnets that line up with each other. If too much weight is put on the rope then the magnets slip and the outer hub spins. With the twist of a screw driver the two piece hub can be made to act like a solid one piece hub. It is constructed mainly out of baltic birch with parts from several online sources.
  • These complete plans total 29 pages that you can print at home and start using immediately.
  • A materials list for all crane parts and links to web sites for various pieces is included.
  • Since you can print the plans, you can print as many copies as you need and you don't need to worry about losing the originals.
  • The plans include several full scale drawings for key pieces that you can use for cutting out the pieces.

Items that are recommended for this project

  • Woodworking skills for this project are considered to be at an intermediate level.
  • A location to cut out the pieces for the plans in a safe manner. If you are unfamiliar with a tool and how to use it then seek the help of someone who can teach you the proper and safe use of that tool.
  • Table saw.
  • Band saw.
  • Drill press and drill.
  • Sander .
  • Router or router table.
  • Sandpaper.
  • Hacksaw.
